This week we’re enjoying showcasing the Minoli collections of porcelain tiles and large format slabs at Focus/24 at the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour. There’s a real buzz around the district as interior designers, architects and property developers take time to visit and view all the participating exhibitors and stores.
It’s been a pleasure to be amongst so many creative companies and to meet our contemporaries with their complementary products and materials. We’ve picked out a few notable product groups in adjacent sectors of the design industry that resonate with the tile ranges that we supply.
Lighting & Lamps
We’ve seen some stunning displays of innovative and bespoke lighting and lamps including highly contemporary and more traditional pendant, wall mounted and table-top designs. Where tiles with structured, 3D surfaces are installed on walls, the way light falls to create highlights and shadows can bring a real sense of depth and movement to interiors. Also, light appears differently on Matt and Polished tile finishes with more saturated and reflective surfaces respectively. The choice of bulb, brightness, shade, warmth and colour of fitting can make a remarkable difference in a room’s décor and so should be considered carefully as part of the whole design process.
Fabrics & Soft Furnishings
Whether to complement or contrast within a room setting, different fabrics and soft furnishings bring comfort, texture and have beneficial acoustic qualities. At Focus/24 we’ve seen beautiful displays of textiles that recreate or celebrate traditional patterns, through to more imaginative, new styles that push the boundaries of how materials are used in interior design. Soft weaves, bold patterns, metallic effects and natural fibre designs show the variety and versatility of how different materials can be used. We always love to see completed projects when exacting and technical tile installations are fused with flowing fabrics that create undulating and natural forms.
Contemporary Furniture
The inventive craft of modern furniture design and the range of frames and coverings used are showcased prominently at Focus/24. Within some of the latest Minoli ranges we see designs influenced by materials like slatted wood and metallic finishes that are found in modern furniture design. Furniture can be used to pick out the tints and tones in various tile ranges or indeed, muted and subtle tile designs can effectively create more neutral canvases against which to centre-stage standout furnishings. From traditional wooden chairs and tables, to more free-form, sumptuous sofas, armchairs and ottomans, there’s much to take in at the show.
Kitchen & Bathroom Components
Within the Design Centre there are several leading kitchen and bathroom providers supplying sanitary and brass ware, fixtures, fittings, bespoke units and state-of-the-art appliances, as well as designing luxury kitchens, bathrooms and ensuites for stunning properties. Tiles within the Minoli collection are available with a variety of grippy structured surfaces, ideal for use in wet areas, and tiles create entirely waterproof and very hygienic surfaces. With the latest extra-large format slabs and book match designs, entire walls can be fitted with uninterrupted pieces spanning floor to ceiling, and can be precisely cut for tap, shower, power and drainage requirements.
Larger format floor tiles can create the impression of an almost seamless surface and tiles and mosaics can be coordinated or contrasted within designs to create feature areas, shower enclosures, behind basins, sinks and cookers or in alcoves. Porcelain tiles can also be used to clad units, and the latest 20 mm thickness designs are suitable for inclusion as tops for counters and breakfast bars.
