As we look forward to celebrating the tenth anniversary of Minoli’s London showroom, The Surface Within on George Street, Marylebone, we’ll be sharing the story of the company’s longstanding relationships with clients in the Capital, and the journey to being so well established in the heart of London today.
The firm was originally founded by Luigi Minoli, who starting trading in the late 1930s working with marble and terrazzo in Islington, Camden, Shoreditch & Clerkenwell, where the Minoli family was then based. It was a few years later when Luigi moved the firm to Oxford to establish a full production facility, where it is now headquartered. In that time relationships with clients working in key sectors were further developed, some of which are still areas of focus for the company today, such as the Automotive industry and Housebuilding.

Minoli had a focused offering of product and service for clients as diverse as those in automotive, retail, hospitality and education, who recognised the beauty and durability of marble and terrazzo flooring and these sectors became a foundation for Minoli’s future growth, through to the present day. Indeed, we understand some of the original installations are still in place as a statement of the quality of work and materials undertaken and supplied by Luigi, Peter and their colleagues, back in the day.
It was also during this time that Minoli began forging links with the design community in London, helping architects, designers, businesses and homeowners, to specify and select different stoneware solutions for various projects. Having worked with a wide range of clients in different settings, both Luigi and Peter were well placed to advise on the right material and finish for commercial and residential installations, a per-cursor to the design consultations that we’re frequently involved in now.

In the run up to marking the tenth anniversary of The Surface Within on the 13th of September, next week we’ll be running a series of articles about The Design & Build, The London Business Today and The Anniversary Event, so stay tuned for further coverage.
