Marble-Look Large Format Tiles & Slabs

Today we’re exploring the latest porcelain tile designs with marble-effect finishes that include large format tiles and super-sized slabs within their series.

From those emulating the purest whit Italian stoneware, to others with more vivid and dramatic chromatic palettes, advancements in production techniques deliver unforeseen graphic detail and clarity, which make them almost indiscernible from their natural counterparts.

With precisely rectified edges and carefully calibrated sizes, highly technical designs and installations can be achieved, creating seemingly seamless surfaces. Affording the opportunity to reduce the width of grout lines down to 2 mm, a wide variety of grout colour options are available to enhance the continuity and coherence of the finished scheme.

Also, because porcelain tiles can be cut and drilled to accommodate plumbing, drainage, brassware, electricals, sockets and switches, these expansive tiles and slab designs need not constrain the designer’s ambitions. We’ve also seen them used to clad fire places, breakfast bars and media walls, as well as being used for countertops and sinks in specialist 12 mm thicknesses, so the chosen patterning can extend to furnishings, as well as floors and walls.

Marvel

As one of our most extensive Collections, there are now 58 different designs in the Marvel Series of marble-look, fine, Italian porcelain tiles, extra-large format slabs, décor pieces and some exterior specification paving products. What’s more, given the increasing demand for marble-look tiles and slabs, we’re looking forwards to launching further additions to this ever popular collection soon.

Marble has been centre stage in the world of art and architecture for millennia but the most recent interpretations of this classic design material in porcelain allow for a much wider variety of colours, sizes and finishes. Being a manmade material, they also have an inherent production uniformity and consistency of design and dimension that enables more precise installation within modern built environments.

The Marvel Collection includes tiles from the original Marvel Series, first launched in 2012, Marvel Dream, Marvel Stone, Marvel Shine, Marvel Travertine, Marvel Ten-X, Marvel Gala, Marvel Meraviglia, Marvel Onyx, Marvel Diva, Marvel Epic, and the very latest Marvel T.

In large format tile designs, of sizes including 60/90, 60/120, 120/120 and 75/150, there are now over 200 variants available in the Marvel Collection, providing an unprecedented choice of styles and colours. Smaller formats such as 30/60 and 60/60 are also available, as well as diminutive mosaics and detailed décor designs.

In extra-large slab formats, with 6 mm thickness for ease of handing and installation, sizes include 120/240, 120/278, 160/160 and the super-sized 160/320 dimensions.

Some designs are also available in ‘Endless Kits’ where the patterning can be arranged to appear to flow across the surface of adjacent slabs. Others are available in ‘Book Match’ formats, which are created to align and mirror each other, so giving the impression of an open book of opposing pages.

The Marvel Meraviglia and Ten-X Series also include large format Outdoor pavers, in 60/120 sizes with a slip-resistance rating of R11, which enable the coordinated alignment of interior and exterior tile styles.

Jewels Cosmopolitan, Wanderlust & Jolie

These three series, recently grouped under the Jewels Collection, feature some of the boldest and most colourful designs, as well as those with more classic or muted tonal variations.

With 60/120 or 120/120 dimensions, and Gloss or Brushed surface treatments depending on the chosen design, variants such as Jolie Pietra Grey & Verde Alpi, or Cosmopolitan Arabescato Ora & Amazzonite recreate with authenticity some of the rarest and most exuberant colourways.

Whereas Jolie Washington & Calacatta Select or Cosmopolitan White Crystal & Calacatta Gold are at the more classic and subtler end of the scale.

In 120/278 dimensions, with a 6 mm thickness, Cosmopolitan Mystic Grey, White Crystal, Amazzonite, Arabescato Oro and Calacatta Gold, Jolie Washington, Verde Alpi and Pietra Grey, and Wanderlust Galway Green, Four Seasons, Saint Laurent and Labradorite all come to life at grand scale.

Of these, Cosmopolitan Arabescato Oro and Calacatta Gold also come in Book Match designs, with A & B variants that can be aligned to stunning effect.

Energy, Magnus and Garner

As mainstays in the Minoli Core Essentials Collection, representing outstanding value for high-quality rectified porcelain, the series with large-format tiles include Energy in 60/120 dimensions, Garner in 90/90 and Magnus in a 75/75 size.

While the Energy Taj Mahal Linen, Garner White & Ivory and Magnus Calacatta White designs are more traditional and muted in tone, Energy Calacatta Viola is dynamic in design, with strong burgundy veining, sporadic fiery flecks and ochre inclusions over a billowing pale background.

Selected sizes of various designs from the series described above, including some of the extra-large format slabs, are held in plentiful UK stock at our centrally located Warehouse & Distribution Centre in Oxford, ready for prompt delivery to site.
