As a relatively new surface solution for patios, paths, pool surrounds, driveways, balconies and terraces, today we’re answering the top ten most common questions about Outdoor porcelain paving. If you have other questions not featured, please do let us know.
1. Are porcelain pavers strong and durable?
Manufactured in technically advanced, high-performance porcelain, with a 20 mm thickness and greater load bearing, Outdoor By Minoli ranges will stand the test of time. Being twice the thickness of most standard interior tiles, they are extra-strong and will provide a beautiful and useable outside space for many years to come.
2. Are porcelain pavers easy to clean and maintain?
Outdoor porcelain tiles are easy to keep clean and looking new with minimal effort. Impervious to dirt, oils and chemicals, they require only low maintenance using household products and a stiff brush, or occasional treatment with a tile cleaning solution.
3. Can porcelain pavers withstand UK weather conditions?
Because porcelain tiles are vitrified in kilns during production and have near zero porosity, they are highly resilient to extremely hot and cold temperatures and are frost proof. What’s more, porcelain tiles will not shrink, split or splinter, warp or show wear and they are better suited for use in humid and wet areas as they will not rot or attract algae.
4. Do porcelain pavers come in different designs?
No matter the end vision and desired style, the Outdoor By Minoli porcelain paving collection includes an array of finishes and material effects from minimalist concrete, organic stone, natural wood and even marble look. Available in such a broad range of sizes, colours and textures, outdoor tiles provide a unique solution to any exterior design project.
5. Where can you use outdoor porcelain pavers?
The inherent qualities of outdoor porcelain tiles make them a flexible alternative to so many commonly used materials including garden paving, wooden or composite decking, concrete, cement and resin slabs, natural stoneware, hardstanding driveways and blockwork, traditional quarry tiles and terrazzo, amongst others. As such they can be used on patios, terraces, balconies, paths, driveways, pool surrounds, and even outdoor kitchens and garden living spaces. What’s more, as the thinner 9 mm indoor porcelain tiles are also frost and heat proof, they too can be installed outside as coordinating cladding on walls and other exterior surfaces.
6. How do you install outdoor porcelain pavers?
There are many flexible methods for installing outdoor porcelain tiles depending on the substrate, surface and specifics of the site including traditional adhesive installation, laid to grass, earth, sand or gravel, or using a pedestal support system for improved drainage and access to pipework or cabling.
7. Can you match up indoor and outdoor tiles?
Creating seamless transitions throughout built environments and from inside to outdoors is a design concept that we call ‘Connected Living’. As many in Minoli’s extensive ranges have coordinating interior tiles and exterior pavers to match, very consistent indoor to outside transitions can be achieved through bifold or traditional patio doors and picture windows.
8. Are porcelain pavers eco-friendly and sustainable?
Porcelain tiles are manufactured according to energy and water-efficiency criteria and are an environmentally friendly choice due to their long-lasting and recyclable characteristics. Production is ‘zero waste’, based on the use of natural and always reusable materials, plus they do not contain any volatile organic compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde, PVC, plastics or petroleum derivatives. They do use natural resources in their production such as clay, common rocks like feldspar or quartz, and water, but these are widely available and in good supply.
9. In what sizes are porcelain pavers available?
Given the variety of surface finishes and materials effects, it’s no surprise that Minoli porcelain pavers come in a wide variety of sizes including 60/60, 60/90, 80/80, 90/90, 30/120, 60/120, 120/120 and even extra-large 120/124 slabs. With crisp rectified edges and exact calibrated sizes, exterior porcelain products are more uniform in dimension than natural alternatives and can be fitted with greater precision allowing for highly technical designs to be realised.
10. Are outdoor porcelain pavers slippery when wet?
Being recommended specifically for use external use, Outdoor By Minoli Collections feature textured surfaces with slip resistance ratings of R11. New manufacturing techniques marry grip with comfort underfoot so there’s no compromise when choosing an exterior specification porcelain product.
